The trend towards a climate neutral electronics sector
The growing use of electronics increases the carbon footprint of the electronic industry’s value chain. For Mycronic, while this is a challenge that must be addressed, it is also an opportunity, as we can be an enabler for cutting emissions in the sector.
CO2 emissions from the electronics supply chain are increasing
We see that the change towards a climate neutral electronics industry is inevitable and it will eventually be forced by increasingly strict regulations on emissions.
While CO2 emissions from the electronics supply chain are increasing, the World Economic Forum estimates that these emissions can be reduced by 20 percent through material and process efficiency improvements. This could be achieved through measures to reduce power consumption, heat consumption and waste in production processes. Another 35 percent could be cut by switching to renewable energy.
Mycronic is committed to developing solutions that facilitate this transition, by reducing the carbon footprint from the use of our products as well as from our own operations.
Reducing the energy consumption from lasers by up to 99 percent
The newly developed SLX mask writer (länk uppdateras) is one example of a solution that can contribute to reduce emissions in the sector. The SLX uses a solid-state laser technology that cuts the energy consumption from the laser by up to 99 percent. In the future, we want to enable the use of this technology in all our mask writers models.
